Our Pastor

Kirkwood Presbyterian Church is pleased to announce that Reverend Cynthia Parr is serving as our Interim Pastor. Reverend Parr joined Kirkwood in mid December and has been enthusiastically leading the congregation in worship, outreach, and fellowship.

Rev. Parr thinks of church as a home away from home for the faithful, and she feels that worship is central to all that we do.  From worship, we develop our interest in Christian education and nurture our skills in music and leadership.  All of our committee work is ultimately to support our place of worship.  Even our fellowship events draw us closer together as faithful followers of Christ.

In terms of preaching style, it is Rev. Parr’s method to preach from the Word, understand its meaning in its culture of origin, and translate that meaning into our day and time.  She enjoys discovering new information about the ancient Scriptures and sharing that insight in the form of stories, illustrations, and examples.  As an educator, Rev. Parr is enthusiastic about intergenerational learning events, such as Advent Workshops and Passover meals.  She also enjoys leading Bible studies and facilitating book clubs.  She has been involved in mission trips, including Israel and Nicaragua, but  perhaps her favorite was a work camp in her home town of Pittsburgh.

Rev. Parr was born in Pittsburgh, PA.  She graduated from Point Park University with degrees in Secondary Education and Mass Communications.  She attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and served several churches in the area before accepting a call in Western New York.  She is married to John Parr and is the mother of two sons, Nathan and Evan.

It is quite apt that John 3:8 is one of Rev. Parr’s favorite Scripture verses.  It reads:  “The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes.  So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”  Although we, at Kirkwood may not know where the Spirit is taking us, we can rest assured that God has placed new life in our midst.  We invite you to join us as we begin a new year in our faith journey.

Kirkwood Presbyterian Church holds worship service each Sunday at 10:30 AM.  Sunday School begins at 9:30 AM.  A nursery is provided.  Pastor Parr can be reached by phone at (770) 883-5563, by email at revparr@kirkwoodpc.org, or during office hours.  Kirkwood is located at 618 Acworth Due West Road, Kennesaw, across from Due West Elementary School.
